Vice President for Communications
Tysen serves as the chief communications and marketing officer for the University of Connecticut and is responsible for conveying the University's mission, vision, and values to both internal and external audiences. He provides strategic leadership and counsel in the areas of communication, marketing, crisis management, and outreach, and administers all aspects of the University's news services, media relations, brand development, multimedia design and production, and alumni relations. A former journalist, Tysen previously held senior leadership roles in communications and public relations at the University of Iowa, University of Arkansas, Penn State University, and Rider University.
Director, Media Communications
With nearly 20 years of experience in management, strategic communications and marketing research, David Martel serves as Director of Media Communications where he oversees a team of communications professionals in media relations and multimedia. Prior to his appointment in University Communications in 2000, David was the Senior Assistant Director of the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research, an internationally recognized, non-profit research facility dedicated to the study of public opinion and public policy.
Director, Marketing Communications
Patti is a UConn graduate, having earned BA degrees in French and English and an MA in English. She joined University Communications in 1997 and since then has successfully managed a wide range of marketing communications programs, projects and initiatives. Reporting to Patti are the Marketing, Design and Internet Services units. In addition, she also oversees marketing relationships with our internal clients, including Enrollment Management and the UConn Alumni Association.
